Technology to look forward to in 2012

happy 2012 tablet computer smaller

2012 looks to be a great year for technology.  We can look forward to new products and services from Amazon, Apple, Microsoft & Google.  Here is our pick of the best future technology releases:

Operating Systems

Windows 8

The first public beta release of Windows 8 is due in February.  This will allow you to test Windows 8 before its full production release.  We would not recommend that you try this on your main computer however as the software has not been finalised.  Windows 8 introduces the 'Metro' interface, first seen on Windows 7 mobile phones and Microsoft's Windows Store for Apps.  Expect the final release in the second half of the year, but some analysts say it could be as early as April/May 2012.

Android Jelly Bean

Following on from Ice Cream Sandwich (daft name we know!) comes Android Jelly Bean.  Rumour has it that Google are working on an app that will rival Siri on the iPhone 4s.  Android Jelly Bean should include better camera software and faster running apps.

Tablet PCs

Apple Ipad 3

2012 should see the release of the iPad 3.  The iPad 3 will have a better display - using the same technology as the iPhone 4.  Other features could include a better camera, an SD card slot, a carbon fibe case and Siri voice recognition.

Kindle Fire

This has been on sale in the US for a few months and could possibly hit UK shops this month.  The Kindle Fire is a colour ebook reader and tablet running a hybrid version of Google Android.  Expect to pay between £100-£200.  This is not really a rival to the iPad, but if all you do is view websites and check emails then the Kindle Fire could be the tablet for you.
